Costco's spiral sliced, honey baked ham
The entrees line one side of the island in the kitchen.
Note: The island has five main functions for us. The first benefit is an extra, single bowl sink for washing cookware, bakeware, and dishes as well as for food preparation. The second is that the large surface area is suitable for a number of things, such as : 1. displaying cards from loved ones and Lydia's homemade cards, a picture of Lydia, and a small chalkboard in the shape of a pig (for listing the menu items for guests); 2. storing fresh fruits at room temperature; 3. providing two, 3-foot long food preparation areas that flank the sink; 4. giving enough space to transfer food from pots and pans to serving dishes and bowls; and 5. having enough area to serve as a buffet table when we have larger gatherings at our home.
Guests are placing food on their plates as they walk along the buffet table on the kitchen island.
Note: One comment that many guests have often shared with us is that they like the expansiveness of this great room with the kitchen in the foreground, the nook in the midground, and the family room in the background.
