Photos: Candy Stick

DSC_3294
M & M candy stick
Photo note: The light source for this picture was mixed as it came from the chandelier of the dining room, which had both fluorescent and incandescent bulbs among its lamps. Fluorescent lighting produces a greenish hue while incandescent lighting yields a yellow-reddish hue.

Photo note: The sole light source for this picture was a flash mounted on a lightstand to the left of the camera, whose illumination passed through a white shoot-through umbrella. Notice how much whiter the dish and the candy stick looks compared to the prior picture.

Note: During Nelly's visit, she wanted to try out a number of American foods, including candies.

Spoon and chopsticks are the necessary tools to use for a Korean barbecue meal.
Photo note: Nelly Wee, one of SiowFong's nieces, used SiowFong's Canon G11 digital point and shoot camera to take these pictures. People often believe that a bigger, more expensive camera automatically takes better pictures, but that assumption is not always true. As important as the camera is to the outcome of the image, even more important are the creativity, vision, and proficiency of the person using the camera to capture the picture.

Note: Each Tuesday during Ma Wee's visit was "Girls Night Out", and tonight's theme was Korean food.

Note: Nelly Wee, one of Lydia's cousins who is visiting us from Singapore for seven weeks, has developed a keen interest in photography. Today was her first exposure to doing some portrait photography in a studio setting with one of her favorite subjects, Lydia.
Photo note: A folded canvas background has wrinkles (please see the rest of the images below), so to remove the wrinkles required time in Photoshop.

Note: During her visit with us, Nelly helped with some of air sealing and insulation at the new home around the windows and in the crawlspace at the rim joist and at penetrations between the crawlspace and the first floor. Caulk, canned spray foam, and pink board (extruded polystyrene rigid foam) were some of the materials that she used.

Note: As Nelly would be returning soon to Singapore, her home, we invited the Chews (Steven and Tammy) to our home for a meal. During Nelly's visit, the Chews had met her at our home and had volunteered with her at our future home doing the airsealing and insulation tasks in the crawlspace and the attic. We are indebted to Nelly, Steven, and Tammy and a number of other friends from Shoreline Community Church who helped us with these extra duties at the new house.

Photo note: The 70-200 mm f/2.8 lens is a favorite among photojournalists, portrait specialists, and wedding photographers because of its ability to isolate subjects from their environment when the lens is used at large apertures (2.8 or 4).
