Photos: With the Cranes

DSC_1590
Florence and Al Crane are holding hands.
Note: Grandma Florence, who is 85 years of age, has been struggling with Alzheimer's dementia for several years, and her family decided to admit her into Rosewood Court, a home for dementia patients, in Edmonds, Washington earlier this month because they felt that Grandpa Al could not meet all of her needs at home. Grandpa Al, who is 83 years old, visits Florence every day, and this was our first opportunity to see Florence in her new home.

Note: Because of the absence of trees on Jetty Island, finding a shady place is a challenge.

Waiting for the ferry to return to Everett
Note: To prevent sand from getting on their socks or pants, Lydia is wearing her rain boots, and SiowFong is wearing her garden boots.
Photo note: This location was selected because the piling of the pier, which is behind Lydia and SiowFong, provided shade for them as the sun was rising behind the piling. Open shade describes where Lydia and SiowFong are, and the even light (though bright) is great for portraits even when the harsh rays of the sun at noon are bathing the surrounding areas.

DSC_7253
"I love mommy" is the message that Lydia conveys in this image.
Note: We arrived at the Jetty Island pier about fifteen minutes early before the ferry arrived to take us back to Everett. That was plenty of time for trips to the bathroom and for fifteen shots of Lydia and SiowFong.

Lydia and her classmates are walking on the trail from the parking lot to the lower observation area.
Note: For safety reasons, the teachers always instruct the children to hold hands or to hold onto a rope whenever they leave the day care facility for either a field trip or a walkabout (a walk around the neighborhood of the day care).

At the upper observation area, the children are looking down at Snoqualmie Falls. Lydia, who is wearing a red windbreaker jacket, is looking at her dad who took this picture of the group.
